How to remove wool pills and keep your favourite Souâd Feriani pieces in beautiful condition.
At Souâd Feriani, we work almost exclusively with 100% merino wool — a luxurious type of wool that does not itch and is naturally resistant to pilling. Still, certain treatments used to create a specific look can sometimes lead to the formation of small pills.
There is no need to worry: with the right care, you can easily keep your wool pieces free from pilling and preserve their refined appearance for years to come.
The best way to remove pills
The most sustainable and safest way to remove pills from wool is simple: use a pair of fine scissors.
Carefully cut away the pills without cutting into the fabric itself. This technique minimises damage and prevents the wool from pilling further. It helps preserve the quality, softness and beauty of your garment.
What is pilling, and why does it happen?
Many people associate pilling — also known as bobbling — with lower-quality wool, but that is not entirely accurate.
Loosely twisted yarns create an exceptionally soft and comfortable texture. This loose twist, combined with the long fibres we select, gives the wool its beautifully supple handfeel, but it can also contribute to pilling.
To prevent pilling completely, the wool would need a much firmer finish, which would make the texture harder and less fluid. Because we believe luxury is rooted in comfort and softness, we consciously choose an approach that preserves the gentle qualities of our merino wool.
Tips to reduce pilling
- Treat your garments with care. Avoid friction with rough surfaces or accessories such as bags.
- Wash with care. Hand wash or use a wool wash programme with a mild liquid detergent, and wash your garments inside out. Do not use fabric softener and always dry flat.
- Store correctly. Fold your wool garments instead of hanging them, to prevent the fibres from stretching unnecessarily.
- With this approach, your Souâd Feriani wool pieces will remain just as soft and refined as the day you bought them. Luxury deserves the best care — and your wardrobe deserves nothing less.
